Guest artists are high-end photographers where resident artists of the Sugarcreek Photography Gallery invite guest artists to display their works on the gallery’s front wall.
The Sugarcreek Photography Gallery offers its prime sales space under a rent-free arrangement to guest artists. As a result, guest artists receive 70% of the sale for any works which sell on the gallery’s wall. The gallery retains 30% and covers the 2.4% credit card transaction fee.
The gallery is responsible for collecting and paying Ohio sales tax. As a result, all sales must be rung through the gallery’s point of sale device, even for cash transactions.
The displayed artwork will fall under the protection of the gallery’s existing insurance policy for large damaging events such as fires or tornadoes. Since guest artists will be installing their own prints, they are responsible for minor damages associated with display and transport.
Nearly every print in the gallery displayed by resident artists is a custom-framed print. As guest artists accept the gallery’s invitation, there is an expectation guest artist will display prints that match this level of presentation. Mass-produced prints with saw-tooth hangers are discouraged. Custom framed prints are expensive, so the gallery encourages guest artists to price their work accordingly. The gallery understands that pricing artwork can sometimes be intimidating. As a result, resident artists stand ready to mentor guest artists as required.
Guest artists grant the gallery and fellow resident artists permission to photograph their artwork for the purpose of advertising the artists and the gallery. These forums include social media accounts, the gallery’s webpage, and printed advertisements. Guest artists retain all copyrights and reproduction rights to their work.
Guest artists will ensure each print is clearly priced and will also provide a hard copy inventory sheet using the gallery’s example format.
Guest artists will always be paired with a gallery member, so there is no need for a special alarm code or gallery keys.
The gallery will also hold a key event called “Second Saturday at the Sugarcreek” which features the guest artists. It’s held on the second Saturday of the month where the gallery hours are 11am – 7 pm. Guest artists should plan to attend most of this showing since the gallery is hosting the event in their name. If guest artists cannot attend the event, the gallery will coordinate with the guest artists for a timeslot which better accommodate everyone’s schedule.
As part of the event, guest artists are encouraged to provide complementary wine and cheese for gallery visitors. The wine will be available, but guests must serve themselves.
Guest artists will install their work on the first Thursday of the month, during normal gallery hours unless special arrangements were previously made. The artwork will remain on the front wall until the last Sunday of the month, where guest artists secure their work during normal gallery hours.
A list of our current guest artists lies on the gallery's homepage under Gallery Events.
