Beth Larsen Artist STatement
As a photographer, nothing brings me more joy than capturing the emotion of a subject and sharing it with others. I am rewarded if viewers of my images can evoke that emotion. Photography is not only something I enjoy, it helps me to balance the stress I experience in my life.
Even though I started my photography journey as a landscape photographer, I have focused on birds, flowers, cars, night sky, and dancers. It is exciting to experience the soft light at the beginning or end of the day watching its effect on the subjects around me.
I also enjoy creating emotional still life's. Capturing a part of a person life in a still life photograph is something that brings me great joy. I often take something that is ordinary such as boots or spools of thread, and make them beautiful by utilizing a process called light painting. This process controls the light and allows the photograph to almost glow. I hope that in sharing my images, it provides great joy to the viewer.
